Have you thought about playing with the shadows of your cut and paste? (like adding a layer of foamboard between the layers) and then practicing with a camera to get neat '3D' effects? I know you can get card making sets that do this - that's just cheesy, but a properly trained artist could possibly make it work to her advantage. Just a 'penny' from the mind of a wanna be artiste! ;)
